Every account in Outseta has an overarching billing stage that describes what's happening with the account from a financial perspective.
By design, these stages are not editable—instead, they reflect the financial standing of the account. If you want to change an account's billing stage, you need to change something related to the subscription or products that the account holds—this may include accepting a payment, canceling the subscription, etc.
Below, you will find definitions for each billing stage. The numeric value corresponds to how each stage is identified when working with Outseta's API.
Trialing (2) - If an account is currently on a free trial or is subscribed only to free products, their billing stage will be "Trialing."
Subscribing (3) - The account is currently on a paid subscription or has purchased a paid product and is up-to-date on all payments due.
Canceling (4) - The customer has indicated they want to cancel all of the products associated with their account.
Expired (5) - The account has been fully canceled and has reached the end of any subscription period. Expired accounts can no longer login.
Trial Expired (6) - The account's free trial period has ended, and the account has never paid.
Past due (7) - The account is behind on payments because payment for an invoice that's due has failed. The user likely needs to update the their payment information.
Cancelling Trial (8) - The account has requested to cancel during a free trial period. The account will continue to have access for the rest of the trial period, but will not be subscribed at the end of the trial period.
Paused (9) - Payment collection for the account has been temporarily paused.
Created (10) - The account successfully entered all required "Account" information at sign up, but did not complete the subsequent "Checkout" step for a paid product. This is essentially an abandoned checkout.
